We enjoy using Joomla for building sites smoothly with controlled contents and controlled modules on left, right, top and any position of site. We simply enjoy it because of its controlling feature over content.
But when it comes to blogging, Joomla may not be the right tool as it is. Well, but why do I need Blog features? You may ask. The reason is “maximum exposure”. Yes, if you want your site to give maximum exposure you definitely need a blog.
Joomla, by default, cannot give more exposure to search engines other than back links and RSS feeds it provides. But “pinging” is a must when you want to expose your content to the search engines.
By using feedburner, you can link your RSS feeds and feedburner will take care of that. Yet it is partial effect only.
Some of the features a blog system should do.
- Date wise posting display
- Good commenting system
- Pinging (which is very important)
- Trackbacks
If you look at carefully, you may notice , until 1.5 Joomla, any of the above features are not available into it. Although, you can display date and time with posted content, it is not taken primarily.
What is the Solution?
1. Using Feed Burner.
2. Using WordPress as separate installation and adding the RSS feed list on homepage of Joomla
3. Using WordPress Component. (yes it is available from corephp.net)
4. Using a commercial component from azrul.com
My personal suggestion is to go with azrul components for blogging and commenting. Because, it provides ALL features, yes I have to shout here. Features like commenting, threaded commenting, Gravatar, Pinging, trackbacks etc.
It‘s quite in here! Why not leave a response?
